The AWI EC 2013 !!
and the Last Chance Qualifier the day before
Thursday evening, silence at the field, just a few lines show that something is going to happen, something different than a soccer match!
Friday morning 10 am and the field is set up, waiting for the Last Chance Qualifier to start in a few hours. 20 teams get a last chance to pick the last 5 spots for the European Championship and the World Finals. 4 pm, the field is filled with music, laughter, fun and friendship and then at 5 pm the Last Chance Qualifier starts - one round of Freestyle for 20 teams, excitement is in the air. Who will get the last 5 spots? After 1 ½ hour the award ceremony announced the top 5 teams who will play at the European Championship the next day.
Saturday morning, disc dog lovers from more than 7 different European countries arrive at the field, the weather is like we all have it in mind when we think about Italy, our friends from the US, Alex Stein himself, Tom Wehrli ( owner of the AWHOF ) and Gary Duke ( AWI US Tournament Director ) are arrived, too. Excitement is in the air - everyone is getting ready for the 3rd AWI European Championship.
Who will make it?
Who will take the AWI European Champion title home and gets a spot at the Hero Cup trophy?
The games start ½ hour late with a small opening ceremony / players meeting , a few last words got said from Björn Tigges ( the license holder for the AWI in Europe ), You can feel the thrill in the air. Even the judges from 4 different countries ( Marcel Buff / CH , Inaki Carretero / ESP , Jean McCollister / SLO and Uwe Geiberger / GER ) are excited. And then the first team enters the field, the crowed of visitors gives great support for every single team, makes them show of with the best routines they have. After the cut to the top 10, the teams use their second chance to impress the judges, the atmosphere is loaded with energy. Just 15 min. after the last team left the field, the new AWI European Champion got crowned - but even this was thrilling!
Cause of a tie for the first and second place!! All responsible officials ( European Tournament and US Tournament Director and European license holder ) double checked the rules - and then it was official - Paco Lobo and his great dog Cleo are the new AWI European Champions !!!
